DEFINICIÓN

Strabismus is a "deviation" of the alignment of the eyes.

PARTICULARIDADES

The surgery is not painful and it does not require hospitalization.
Local or general anesthesia is used, depending on the case. Usually, the patient is discharged three hours after completion of surgery.

Descripción

It consists in changing the position or length of the muscles that are outside the eyeball to change eye alignment.

When a muscle position recedes, the tension, or the effect the muscle exerts on the eye globe is modified, thus modifying eye alignment. Duration
Surgery takes between 30 and 60 minutes on average.

Postoperative
The person operated from strabismus can do activities normally two days after the operation.

The day following surgery, the patient should go to the clinic for a checkup.

Bloodshot eyes usually remain for two weeks.

Throughout this time, eye drops should be used.

During the postoperative period, the patient perceives a foreign body and feels "pulls" when moving the eyes. This feeling persists for two to three days.

Results expected
Overall, 85% of strabismus surgery corrects the deviation in a single operation and 15% of cases may require reoperation.
